Instant humbling

This week we’ve been doing some cleaning to the house that was much needed. One of the things on my list was to go through the kids closets. I was going through Sweet Pea’s, and found about a million pairs of socks – all unmatched – tucked (read flung) into every corner of her closet. Sweet Pea doesn’t have a dresser, but she does have a very large closet so it works out fine. Anyway, after going through her socks, and weeding through everything else, I remembered that I had some socks that really shrunk after I washed them. They still fit, but I thought they’d fit Sweet Pea better (her foot is nearly as big as mine.) So I put them in her closet since her million pairs of socks had just been whittled down to about 5.

She found them this morning, and came down in a pair. I commented that they fit her nicely. She proudly exclaimed that she loved them. She said “I want to be just like you mommy, and these socks are yours, so I must be turning into you!”

I scooped her up and gave her the biggest hug.

May God give me the graces necessary to be the gentle mommy she needs. God is so good!
