Life in the Afterglow

A New Look for the Blog

After a baby comes, normal is no longer normal. All the routines have to change. Normal merges with a new normal that now includes the new little one. It’s the one thing you can’t really prepare for during pregnancy. You know it’s coming, but you just have to wait for the little one to get here to start the adjusting process with the family. I like to think of it as the “afterglow.” It is that time when we’re all still intoxicated with the sweet smell of her – still loving doing her laundry every day and folding those tiny little onesies – excited about every diaper and clothes change. There is still that glow in the house of “new baby.” The time of afterglow is precious, fleeting, and I’m not sure when all of a sudden it is “normal” around here again. It is soft, warm and joy encompasses everything in the home. It is a time that I’ll look back on fondly, wishing I could have just a sprinkle more of it. It cannot be recreated in any other way, at any other time.

In honor of our afterglow, I have changed the look of the blog to reflect the softness and joy that our little Cricket brings. A soft peachy, pink seems to convey the glow in our home that she has brought. What a gift a baby is! How humbled I am to receive yet another gift, to be entrusted with another little soul. How joyful we all are to be surrounded with the glow that new life brings.

  1. I love the new look and the thought of the “Afterglow”. She is a sweetheart and normal will never be the same.

  2. The color’s perfectly suited to the squeaky one. I still glow from getting to hold her. Speaking of squeaks, does she still make the little nap noises?
